Searching in Evernote

Evernote provides a powerful capability for searching your handwritten notes.

Enter keywords in the Search box at the top of the middle pane. Almost instantly, Evernote lists notes containing the keywords.

In Evernote, you can use code words, called search operators, to refine searches. For instance, use the operator notebook: followed by the name of a notebook to limit the search to a particular notebook. Use the operator updated: followed by a date to limit the search to notes modified after a particular date.

Consider an example:

notebook:A5 WiFi Starter Notebook 1 updated:20121201 any:lab final

This search looks in the A5 WiFi Starter notebook for notes that were last synced to Evernote on December 1, 2012 or later. A note must contain either lab or final (or both).

This example just scratches the surface. For complete information on searching your Evernote account, see the Evernote online help.

Note: By default, Evernote's search looks for notes that contain all of the search keywords. For example, remove the any: operator from the above search string and you have the default search: a note is found only if both the words lab and final appear on the page. Most often, the default search is what you want. Just enter the search keywords without operators.
