How your smartpen captures handwriting
The camera located at the tip of the smartpen takes a continuous series of 6 x 6 dot photographs, spaced 0.3mm apart, creating images of 1.8 x 1.8mm grids of 36 dots. The camera takes 75 snapshots per second, sufficient to capture and recreate handwriting. The camera does not see ink written by a user, nor does it see artwork on a page. Rather, the smartpen tracks and remembers where ink is written, and knows the coordinates of items such as buttons.

How your smartpen records audio and syncs it to handwriting
The Sky wifi smartpen has an embedded microphone to record clear sound. To record audio, just tap on the printed record button. Once you've tapped the record button, any audio captured by the microphone automatically syncs to what you are writing or drawing.

How to record audio in a large lecture hall or conference room
Although your Sky wifi smartpen has an embedded microphone, Livescribe designed the built-in microphone for recording in smaller recording environments, such as a conference room. How to record handwriting only
Your smartpen records your handwriting by default. All you have to do is turn on your smartpen and start writing on Livescribe dot paper (any Livescribe branded paper products). Handwriting without any accompanying audio will show up as black ink strokes in Evernote.

How to convert audio to digital text
Transcription services are provided by our partner TranscribeMe. Simply register with TranscribeMe at www.transcribeme.com/livescribe. During the registration process link TranscribeMe to your Evernote account and authorize it. If you have multiple Evernote accounts, make sure that you use the same account registered to your Livescribe Sky wifi smartpen.
After you've completed this step a TranscribeMe folder will be automatically created for you within Evernote. You can now simply drag-and-drop any audio file into the TranscribeMe notebook or tag individual audio files in Evernote with the tag "TranscribeMe". Once you've confirmed your payment method, your order is placed and your transcribed audio will be delivered right back to your Evernote TranscribeMe notebook within 48 hours or less.

How to record audio without using the printed record button
Your smartpen has a hidden record-only feature. To record audio without tapping on dot paper, simply press and hold the smartpen power button until you see the recording timer appear on the display. When you're done recording, simply turn off the smartpen.
To play back the audio, tap the Menu control on any notebook page, select Applications, then Paper Replay and then select Play Session. -
How to replace your ink cartridge
Replacing the ink cartridge in your smartpen is easy. Just grip the tip of the ink cartridge and pull it to remove it. Insert a new ink cartridge and push it in by pressing down gently on any surface.
