Happy Holidays from Livescribe: Our Facebook Winners Share Their Naughty and Nice Stories

Friday, December 25th, 2009

Congratulations again to our recent Facebook sweepstakes winners. Some of you have been asking whether they’ve been naughty or nice, so we asked them to share their story and tell us what they were planning to do with their shiny, new 4GB Pulse smartpen for the holidays! Check out what they told us!

Our first winner, Darlene, from Corning, New York, was very nice this year:

Even though this has been an extremely hard year economically for me I have kept a positive attitude and tried to help others who have dealt with losing their jobs. If we all support one another I feel we will be encouraged to move forward with a brighter outlook towards the future.

This is what she’s planning to do with her Pulse:

I plan to give the Pulse smartpen as a gift to my significant other who is a teacher. He teaches children in group homes ordered by the courts. His days are very long and he deals with several different people on a daily basis. This Pulse smartpen will come in extremely handy while recording his daily events.

On the other hand, Caitlin from Hopewell Junction, New York was naughty this year:

Naughty, because this year I spoiled myself and followed my heart. That may not be naughty to other people but for me I hardly ever do things just because I want to.

This is what she’s planning to do with her Pulse:

I haven’t decided yet if I will be naughty and keep it, or be nice and give it to my boyfriend. If I do the latter, which I probably will, I will still be able to use it, so I get the best of both worlds - being generous but still being able to benefit from this generous gift. The Pulse smartpen will help me in school so that I can study more efficiently.

And last but not least, Candy from Newland, North Carolina was nice this year:

I was nice this year, as I have been doing a lot of care giving for my sick parents this year.

This is what she’s planning to do with her Pulse:

I am now going to be naughty and keep the smartpen for myself! I think it will help me with work because I have to attend a lot of meetings, and my mind tends to wander at these things. I think the smartpen will help me capture things I might ordinarily miss.

Happy Holidays from Livescribe!

Have App Fever? Show us what you’ve got and enter Livescribe’s Global Developer Challenge!

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Do you have ideas on how to make the Pulse smartpen smarter with new applications? We could use your creative thinking to develop applications with our Livescribe Platform SDK for the Livescribe Beta Application Store! This week, we kicked off a Global Developer Competition and are calling all developers to create and submit entertainment, educational and productivity applications for the Pulse smartpen for a chance to win the $5,000 Community Round Grand Prize, $5,000 Expert Round Prize, or one of three $500 Community Round Category prizes.

To enter, create an app and upload a short video that demonstrates how your app works on the Livescribe Developer Challenge page on Facebook.

All submissions will be judged by Livescribe’s Facebook fans and a panel of celebrity judges. Not only will winners win a cash prize, but your application will shine in the spotlight within the Livescribe Beta Application Store.

But wait—even if you’re not an application developer, you and your great ideas can still make it into the Beta App Store! Submit your ideas for a smartpen application, and a developer could turn it into a reality. So go ahead, tell us what applications you’d like to see on the Pulse smartpen on our Facebook App Challenge page!

We encourage everyone – developers and non-developers – to make the Pulse smartpen smarter. Show us with a video or tell us your app ideas on our Facebook App Challenge page!

How Would You Use the Livescribe Smartpen?

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

From sketch artists, to researchers, students, and business professionals, everyone has a different idea of when, where and how they’d use the Livescribe smartpen. So what’s yours? Write us back by submitting a comment below. We’ll pick our favorite response on January 4, 2008 and send you a smartpen for free when we start shipping the product.

In the meantime - check out what our group friends are saying on Facebook, and have a look at what other blogs are saying:

Livescribe - Paradigm Shifting User Research Technology?

“While the [Livescribe] was not designed for user research applications, consider how it might be applied:

  • During user interviews, the researcher can reference what he or she writes or sketches directly back to the interviewees words for clarity and idea expansion.
  • In usability testing the facilitator can reference recorded comments directly back to a discussion guide document to quickly drill-down to supporting quotes.
  • For ethnographic observations informant conversations and environmental sounds can be unobtrusively recorded while taking notes.”

Ethnography: Saved by Technology?

“Enter the [smartpen] from [Livescribe]. The [smartpen] allows us to take notes even as we capture a taped version of what is said, and then to interpolate between them as need be. The [smartpen] gives us both the topographical map and the treasure map.”

Speaking of Transcription

“Unfortunately, at least some of that time you really do need an accurate transcription, particularly of complex ideas that are new to you and so are hard to summarize. That’s where being able to replay just that portion of the lecture with Livescribe would be incredibly useful.”

Pen Cures Restless Mind Syndrome, Reveals Office Secrets

“For business purposes, the uses are endless. The pen can attend those mindless weekly traffic meetings on your behalf.”

[Smartpen] from [Livescribe]

“This would have been a dream device for me when I was a student. I was always sloppy with my notes and would often spend hours trying to figure out why I circled three times “War/zoo analogy”. Seemed important at the time, but when it came time to study, I’d have to put on my Sherlock Holmes hat and try to figure out what the heck it meant. With this, I could double click, rewind a few minutes and just hear it again.”

Livescribe Smartpen

“I am the old fashion type who likes to take notes by hand rather than type through a lecture. (As a former radio journalist, I also like to have my tape recorder going to catch those important quotes!)”
