  • A new online resource has been created  to support India’s student population.  The site leverages pencasts to provide additional instruction to students and support learning across all topics in the Indian Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus.  The Indian Government the intends for the CBSE to be the single syllabus used across the country in one to two years.

As explained by the team that developed 1guider.com, the founders were inspired to create a free, online resource for the nation’s students after shopping around for online courses.

  • A pen that lets you replay your lectures

This week, “Terrier Tech” examines Livescribe’s Echo Smartpen. Featuring various memory storage capacities, a microphone and built-in speaker, and an OLED display, this pen guarantees “you’ll never miss a word.” With a promise like that, we couldn’t wait to find out how classroom-friendly this gadget really was.

Priced between $100 and $180, the Echo Smartpen comes with 2GB, 4GB, or 8GB of memory, as well as accessory packages that include a portfolio and a 3-D recording headset.

  • This post comes from Collaboration Without Boundaries, a Professional Learning Network (PLN) of graphically isolated professionals using 21st Century Technology in their classrooms. The task of each member of the PLN is to:

    • create a classroom specific inquiry project using the same technology
    • share their findings with the group
    • commit to use the other members’ ideas within their own classroom

Recently one teacher shared with the PLN her story on using the Livescribe smartpen.

  • For 13 years Elementary teacher Brittany Williams has taught reading, math and everything in between.  She recently shared her Livescribe story with us about how smartpens facilitate her school’s Writing Workshops as well as her own class projects.

Ms. Williams tells us, “I’ve been using the smartpen for a little over a year.  It was purchased by the PTA as part of our digital storytelling center… The digital storytelling center consists of a laptop, a scanner, a microphone and the smartpen. For the students it is a place to record and plan their stories.” Brittany explains that based on the individual 3rd grader the writing workshop can be a group activity, an individual project, or the student and herself working together.
