Arizona State University has developed a smartpen loaner program through their institution’s TRiO program to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities on their campus. The TRiO program is a federally funded program designed to serve first generation college students, students who meet certain income level requirements, or students with disabilities by providing access to non-mandated technology and other services to meet this population’s needs. At ASU’s Tempe Campus, the TRiO program exclusively serves students with disabilities to ensure that they are provided the tools and services they require to perform with the top of their class. As a component of this program, the institution has developed a model smartpen loaner program.
Our YouTube playlist walks through the TRiO program, how the loaner program works and individual uses of the smartpen. A group of creative and empowered students share with us how they have leveraged technology to reduce anxiety, stay on track and keep organized while living with a variety of learning disabilities.
