Online Resource Supports Students in India03/08/12
A new online resource has been created to support India’s student population. The site leverages pencasts to provide additional instruction to students and support learning across all topics in the Indian Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus. The Indian Government the intends for the CBSE to be the single syllabus used across the country in one to two years.
As explained by the team that developed 1guider.com, the founders were inspired to create a free, online resource for the nation’s students after shopping around for online courses. “When I started looking for online course content, I found lots of sites providing such content for a fee. The sites are getting high traffic, which showed me that online courses are beneficial for students.” For him, this content though relevant, was only accessible at a cost to the student, “a barrier for a major percentage of students.”
More than 10 companies provide course content to CBSE students. The price varies from 2,000 Rupees (around $40 USD) to 20,000 Rupees (around $400 USD) for one year of service.
The team believes that quality additional instruction should be available to all Indian students for free. He launched www.1guider.com with the mission of providing course content to all students across India at no charge. He began by recruiting experienced teachers and subject matter experts to prepare the content, with additional input from parents. The team decided to use pencasts to provide the content to students so that audio and visual instruction could be used.
It took four months to build content for each subject. From basic math to electrochemistry the online resource covers almost every subject matter in pencast form leveraginig step by step instructions, animations, solved problems, diagrams, detailed explanations, and even experiments.
The most important thing for the 1Guider.com team? “We will always remain free for everyone to access.”
