If you want to start recording audio on your Pulse smartpen without using Livescribe dot paper, you can just press and hold down the power button until “Recording…” appears on your smartpen’s display. It takes about 7-8 seconds.

When you’re done recording, just hold down the power button to stop recording audio and turn off your smartpen.

If you decide that you want to take notes, you can write on Livescribe dot paper and the audio recording will automatically link to your notes.
