Shipment Date Error in Confirmation Email

Dear Livescribe customers,

We noticed a nasty glitch in our software that generated some of your order email confirmations. A small number of the first customers who placed orders today received April 7th as the shipment date in their email confirmation, despite being given a different date when they first created their Livescribe account.

We quickly fixed this bug - and the receipts on any new orders placed now accurately reflect your shipment date. For those of you who got the conflicting shipment message - we’re sorry for the mix-up. The date you received when you initially created a Livescribe account is the accurate shipment date based on your preorder priority.

Thanks,
Livescribe Customer Support

Really? It seems like a large number of folks who pre-ordered effectively at the beginning of pre-ordering cycle are getting the 4-6 weeks. So who is getting items shipped today or in the next month?

  2. Anil says:

    Hello,

Something just occured to me this evening after reviewing my confirmation email from my order. I was so excited to be placing my order, that I completely forgot that I was supposed to get free shipping! I registered on the site prior to 12/31/07, and I quote the blog post dated 11/14/07 by Eric Petitt, the Director of Marketing:

“By the way, if you haven’t signed up yet (and need a little extra incentive), anyone who pre-orders a smartpen before 12/31/07 on http://www.livescribe.com gets free shipping and handling when we ship in Q1 2008.”

I am sure in all the hectic activity needed to get this product ready for shipping, this was probably just an oversight, but please let us know how you plan to rectify it.

It would be nice if there was a way to check our shipping date. The only date I saw was the one on my confirmation email.

  4. Jeremy says:

So is 4-6 weeks the earliest people could have gotten or are the some lucky few who got an earlier ship date?

  5. Dason says:

I have a question: If I’ve got the wrong shipment date but forgot the date showed when I created my account, where could I find my accurate shipment date now? I suggest maybe you could send us another confirm email. Thanks.

This makes me very disappointed. I love the pen, but I have an AP chem teacher who talks fast, and an AP test coming up.

Too bad. This pen was going to save my grade.

When I got April 7th I was ecstatic, but now not so much. Sigh.

Livescribe, can you help me out? I have a severe case of RMS.

Seriously. Can you help me? I’ll pay shipping!

    Love you guys.

I’m one of those customers. Since logging back into the Livescribe store only yields my order confirmation number, I would appreciate getting an email with the *accurate* shipping date vs the generic 4-6 weeks message. Hopefully this will be possible, I’ve printed my receipt with the false ship date and while it’s great that I’ll get a tracking number when it ships, hoping for one in four weeks is quite different from hoping for one in six weeks.

Aloha, and can’t wait to get my pen =) It’s a shame about this glitch - I was walking on clouds at the thought of getting it in just a scant two weeks, expecting it in seven weeks (when order will be shipped + length of time to ship) took me down a few notches, but still - at least it’s coming!

  8. Kenneth McCarthy says:

I received your email about the errant email confirmation. I did not get an email confirmation of my order but I did get a charge on my credit card for 234.00. I thought we were not to be charged until shipment?

  9. Rob Tannen says:

My shipment date is April 7th - How do I find out if that is the real one or not (besides waiting to see what happens next week)?

  10. Perry says:

So where can I see my actual ship-date then? Let’s assume I closed my original browser session when I received the confirmation email, and mine was one of the ones with an incorrect date. I don’t see any place on the website to check my order status.

I have been very disappointed in your communications related to the timing of poduct availabilty. While not completely false, I feel your communications have been highly misleading. For example “Shipping in March” seems to really mean that if you preordered in December or January, your order will ship in mid May. While I remain interested in the Pulse Smart Pen, I can only hope that your product related communications have not been similarly deceptive.

  12. Susan says:

I agree with the above comments. 1) There is no way to tell what your real ship date is. 2) The “shipping in March” statement seems blatantly false–apparently no one received notification that their pen was shipping March 31. Instead, everyone seems to be getting the ambiguous “4 to 6 weeks” indication. Why not just tell us the truth: no pens will really ship until mid to late May? Personally, I’ve lost any confidence I had in the company. I’m seeing a lot of “truthiness” without any concern for being honest with your customers.

  13. Mike says:

I’ve also got this “4-6 weeks shipping” estimates (which in Amazon terms means = “out of stock and we don’t even know when we get it”) - and I guess majority of people here received the same notice.

I am very disappointed with the Livescribe so far - this blog is a joke: the company representative do not answer even a small persentage of questions people have asked about the pen… What is alarming that at first they were just misleading (e.g. regarding the shiping date - “we’ll ship in March” means that it has supposed to be shipped in March, not in 4-6 weeks (which is not even April, but May) - but now they started to abuse the trust (charging the CC before the shipment, charging for shiping even though it was promised that they wouldn’t do so for those who preordered, etc.)

I am considering cancelling my order (if the company will not come clean with all those issues within a week), as I already suspect that most of the pens which will be shiped in April will either not work properly or will not work at all (Jim has wrote that the first shipment is actually coming from “preproduction stock” - which is probably “pre-beta versions”) and those who will decide to get them anyway - should at least find out what the return policy on those pens is… and who will pay for shipment in case they will break down within the warranty period…

  14. Sergio says:

Real manufacturing and product development issues aside, a plausible theory is that they are gauging demand through this very frustrating pre-order and 4/6 week shipment scheme. Instead of doing the right thing, which is to come up with a solid forecast and manufacturing plan in advance (granted, hard to do because of the risk in estimating the total volume and right mix of 1GB vs 2GB units), they would be having people “raise their hand” too long in advance via pre-orders and then fine tuning once you actually confirm with your credit card. I’m a product manager myself and and reducing your operational risk at the expense of transparency with your most eager early adopters (such as myself) is poor judgment and disrespectful.

  15. Bob Robesky says:

Like the others in this list, I made the “mistake” of ordering before bugs were fixed. Now I have no idea when the pen will ship. How about letting us know? Is that too much to ask?

  16. Perry says:

I found my original confirmation from the order web page. It says the pen is shipping April 7, the same as my confirmation email. I’m hopeful that this is true, but not particularly optimistic.

I’m guessing the reason that an order status page remains missing from the site is that the entire store is hidden, except to pre-orders. Hopefully, that’s being fixed, but perhaps we won’t see it until the ship dates are all corrected.

  17. syed says:

when will u hve this pen available for canadian customer?

  18. Scott says:

I have a pending transaction for 234.80 dollars on my credit card. I’m pretty sure that means they are just checking to make sure I have enough money in my account to cover the order, A pending authorization expires either when the charge is applied or after a few days.

Does anyone else have a pending/applied charge to their account?

I was excited to see that I was charged, because that means the pen might be coming sooner. However this may not be the case.

  19. Bonnie says:

Hey, not to worry! I can wait! Awesome job LS WoooHoooooo

  20. Steve Schlundt says:

Has anyone actually received a pen? If so, could you comment on it? Positives, negatives, does it live up to its advertising?

  21. Gustavo says:

Has anybody received their Pulse yet? I’ts been kind of quiet. Seems like nobody is posting comments anymore. Keep in touch Livescribe community!
