Journals for Pulse

Good news! We’ve heard your request for a smaller journal option with your Pulse smartpen, so we’ve accelerated our production efforts to offer a hard-bound leather journal (5.5 x 8.25 inches) for customers that prefer something smaller than a college-sized notebook. These journals, along with college ruled notebooks and other Pulse accessories, will be available for sale on www.livescribe.com in March.

Here’s a sneak preview of what the journal looks like:

Livescribe journals will be offered as a 2-pack for $24.95. There will be a lined and unlined version.

Thanks for your feedback!

  1. Jan Says:

    Very easy to carry !
But how many pages for this nice notebook ?

  2. Mike Says:

Are there any limition to the size of the dotted paper which can be printed at home? I understand that it is possible to print 8″ x 11″ - but what about the smaller custom sizes?

  3. schalliol Says:

This is great for many, I’m sure. I’d really like to see a “letter pad” that is top bound like this, as previously noted. A great many people use these, and I know that they’d be quite beneficial.

  4. No Replies?!?!?!? Says:

Why won’t anyone reply as to the APPROXIMATE shipping date? I’ve emailed numerous times and asked on the blog… Is this delayed yet again?

  5. klee Says:

Jan - there are 100 sheets or 200 pages (front and back).

The shipping date is in March.

  6. March?!?! Says:

March is 31 days long. Beginning of March, End of March? Can you please be more specific?

  7. Maria Says:

That journal is perfect! Exactly the size I already take to meetings and classy to boot. I LOVE the fact you included unlined versions as well.

  8. Andrew Says:

Good point, is asking for an APPROXIMATE shipping date too much? You DO have competitors, ya know. Beginning, Middle, End? Which is it?

  9. Don't Worry about Ship Date : ) Says:

If you can wait for their delays for almost half years (since September), why not wait for another half year : ) Be patient and check on the site occasionally, lol.

As you can see, the team just pushes a new product line so that they are doing something proactively.

Based at my experience , if they don’t say an exact ship date, there is a very likely chance that it may not come in March (it happened twice). But if you love the pen so much, I think it is best to be patient now…

Afterall, it has no competition at all (io2 is dead, others just plain suck and useless… Fusion digital recordings are just sad….)

  10. Louis Says:

I think if they had a solid shipping date, they’d publish it.

I want one as much as the next person. /me twiddles thumbs impatiently

  11. Don't Worry about Ship Date : ) Says:

Guys, don’t worry about the ship date. I have been a Livescribe Fan for almost a year now and it evolves quite nicely : )

However, based on my experience, it delayed twice and always announced release date vaguely without a specific date. Then it would push back for another 3 months. Since they have done such delay twice, there is a high chance it won’t come out in March and probably will in April or May. At this point, they want to keep the old fans happy and since the old fans are only a small fraction, we are screwable : )

By the way, Livescribe has no competition at all!

    io2 is virtually dead
EPOS functions are just horrible and useless
Other forms of digital recordings with a digital board are equally disappointing.
Fusion is well packaged and low price but its digital recordings is one of the worst…

So Livescribe has the right to let us wait because it has no monkey on their back!

  12. Paul Says:

This is great. I’ll be using this in corporate meetings and didn’t like the look of spiral ring notebooks. I very much prefer the journal style or the “black and red” book styles. KUDOS!

  13. Pen and Paper Says:

I’ve been surviving for years with a pen and paper, so a little delay is not a huge deal….of course, reading my own handwritting can be a be dicey.

  14. Andrew Says:

Very true… I expect a delay already and am very, very disappointed in their lack of specifics when it comes to an APPROXIMATE ship date.

Give me a break, with one week left in Feb. you can’t say when this is supposed to ship within the next MONTH? That tells me that it is going to be delayed until (most likely) June.

Looks like Livescribe has secured their finances so now they are resting a bit easier and don’t need to get the product to market; after all, the product is not paying their salaries, their CAPITAL INVESTORS are so what do they have to lose with more and more delays; if it works as well as the demo shows, release it and then SUPPORT it.

I’ve been pushing this to multiple companies as the next best thing but am not doing so anymore; word of mouth is far more powerful than the advertising (which has been minimal, at best) LS has been doing.

Yes, I am not happy about the delays but I’m even less happy about the LACK OF REPLIES with ESTIMATIONS of a shipping date; if this is an indication of their support…well, you know the rest

And FYI, IO2 is not dead at all…. Plenty of notebooks out there (you can also print your own paper, if you know how) and Destiny is developing new products already.

That and the new Digital Scribe from IO (not to be confused with IO2)…I would say they DO have competition….

So..what’s it going to be? BEGINNING, MIDDLE, END of March?

  15. Christian Says:

Yes, I hope it ships soon. I actually had a dream about the Pulse last night in which one of my students was a beta tester. I must be getting desperate.

  16. Mike Says:

Just a couple of thoughts about possible competition to livescribe platform:

I think that the combination of the new Nokia pen (if I recall it is called SU-27w and it is available for purchase already) and Nokia phone can do even more than the Livescribe pen by itself: Phone can be connected to the Nokia pen via bluetooth (Nokia pen has bluetooth!) and the phone can be used as a recorder (and not just as an audio recorder but also a video recorder) the audio and video recordings can be easily synchronized with ’scribed notes’ which can be sent via email, uploaded on the web etc.

If you have a decent phone you can upgrade memory beyond 2GB, and you do not neeed to stick the headphones in the pen - the phone has a jack or bluetooth for that.

And then some lady has already asked about how would she like to be able to record and navigate her phone calls with the livescribe - here we go: you can have it with any Nokia’s Symbian s60 Nokia cell phone, TotalRecorder software + Nokia pen (with some reltively strightforward hacking)…

  17. Robert Says:

I am quite disenchanted with the lack of replies on shipping - why the blackout? It seems an easy question to anser! What date for shipping? PLEASE REPLY

  18. Craig Says:

I second the “letter head” as well. I want to continue the use of my portfolio. I have to imagine that there are many business people who also have a porfolio and having that option would only increase the sales.

  19. Converting Says:

Where can I get the Nokia Pen? I’m very disappointed with LS non-replies and think the funtionality of the Nokia is just what I need

  20. Converting Says:

Whooops…. Just found mine on Amazon, thanks for the tip… I won’t be bothering with the LS

  21. GermanScripe Says:

Be thankful that you are living in the usa and that their is a chance that you maybe get it in march (whether beginning or ending).
I’m living in germany and i can’t see a chance, that i will get this pen before somebody do the shipping for me or that i will receive an answer of my emails. maybe the support can’t answer because of my bad and confused english….

  22. Louis Says:

Paperium is shipping a nice Mac product. I have one and will also purchase the LiveScribe pen before deciding which one to keep. Their’s is a bluetooth digital pen from Nokia. The Paperium is available via their Web site (and ships from Austria, IIRC). I got mine within three days of ordering. Nice product and works well with Leopard.

  23. klee Says:

Andrew, Robert and others – we apologize for the delayed response and understand your frustration about the shipping date. Our CEO Jim Marggraff just posted a blog response to your concerns, so please take a look: http://www.livescribe.com/blog/2008/02/26/pulse-update-from-ceo-jim-marggraff/. We plan to start shipping by March 31st.

  24. klee Says:

GermanScripe - at launch, Pulse will be available in the U.S. market for purchase online. More details on our international distribution plans will be announced later.

  25. Cheryll Says:

I want a leather folio for the notebooks! I’ve tried finding one, but all I can find are top-loading (for legal pads).

  26. kaku Says:

commenting on the NOKIA pen device as a competition to Livescribe device- i dont think the Nokia Device has any of the Paper-Replay capabilities. So even if you record audio with a nokia phone and take notes with the pen, you cannot sync them together like Livescribe does.

Ofcourse if you just want to scribble your ideas on the notepad and later have them on ur comp, then the nokia PEN device works… but for the ‘lecture room’ note taking scenario, there is still a demand for a product like livescribe.

  27. Cliff Says:

I work in a lab, so what about a lab notebook. The notebook that is used by all our employees is by Esselte:

    Esselte Laboratory Record Notebooks - 300 Sheet(s) - Thread Sewn - 8.12″ x 10.37″ Sheet Size - White
    Product Number: ESSL21300R
    $54.74

    Esselte Laboratory Record Notebook - 150 Sheet(s) - Ruled - 8.125″ x 10.375″ - 1 Each - White
    Product Number: ESSL21150R
    $40.74

On another note, does the Pulse smartpen have an MP3 player? It would be nice to be able to relax to some music while I’m in the lab.

    Cliff

  28. Michael C Says:

I DON”T want leather-bound stuff. From my point of view, that’s just money foolishly spent; plain plastic cover will do nicely, thank you very much.

  29. Marne Says:

The journals look great. For years I’ve kept both a pen and paper journal as well as an online journal and I am tremendously excited about the ability to synch the two. It would be nice to see a journal design page as a part of the livescribe online options so that people could display their writings much like a blog. Just a thought!

  30. Can't Wait Says:

this pen is a dream come true for me hoping to get my email soon a nursing student needs all the help they can get this is a great pen and a great idea glad i found the site

  31. Janie Says:

The journals were not available when I just placed my order for the PulsePen just now.

Any ITA yet for the journals? Will you be selling them through other outlets? Will we be able to buy even though everyone is restricted to one order at a time right now?

    Thanks.
