Efforts are underway to loosen our collars and have a little fun here at Livescribe. We just launched a little site (warning: geared towards college students!) addressing the pain of “Restless Mind Syndrome” - a common “ailment” among college students as well as adults today: check out http://www.nevermissaword.com/. Take a look and let me know what you think…
By the way, if you haven’t signed up yet (and need a little extra incentive), anyone who pre-orders a smartpen before 12/31/07 on www.livescribe.com gets free shipping and handling when we ship in Q1 2008.
Thanks for your support - keep the comments coming!

This is a great way of reaching out to the college market. I hope that there will also be more marketing/offerings geared towards business people.
What a fabulous idea. I specialize in AD/HD and would love to have these available to my web visitors. Will you have an affiliate program at some point?

Very amazing and funny video !
What does the Government on Health thinks of this pen ?
What happens when the Livescribe runs out of ink? Is the ink replaceable?
I don’t think the ad does a good job communicating the benefits of the product. I like the preview on the website much better. Maybe some hybrid
Hmm… it’s very interesting and funny! I can only hope that your product will ship soon enough. It is difficult for me to contain the excitment for this wonderful pen. Any chance an eager customer can get before Q1 2008? Everybody can wish right?
I am just curious when will there be a set price for the pen and paper? Will there be paper sold without the icons at the bottom or with a rip out so that the papper may be turned in without complications from the professor. Also what happens when the pen runs out of ink?
I would love to sign up for this smartpen, unfortunately I can’t, cause I am not from US. When it will be in Europe? This pen is haunting me; I want it crazily, I dream about it, I daydream about it…! I can’t wait to have it :P.
Great site and funny ad. I’m excited to see this pen in “person.”
Very cool! I’m a researcher, and I take lots of notes. I’m particularly looking for an effective way to take notes in the field (developing countries) when I’m speaking with respondents. I always have the challenge of taking written notes and then trying to sync them to recordings I’m making at the same time. How much does it weigh?
I want to buy a smartpen, I want to try a smartpen …
Loved the style of the RMS clip and as a current Uni student I’m really looking forward to the launch. However being in the UK and a Linux user I feel I’m at a bit of a disadvantage. Haha! When is the European release? My friends and I have been following the site for months eagerly awaiting the launch and the inevitable tech reviews that will come with it.
ps The Facebook group is a nice touch.
Patrice - the smartpen weighs at 1.3 ounces. More details are included in the smartpen product gallery: http://www.livescribe.com/smartpen/index.html
Thanks everyone for your feedback and comments!
I’m so excited about this pen! I found it when I was looking for something better than the Fly Fusion - but this isn’t just better, it’s in a whole new league.
I’m going back to college in January, and I have trouble taking good notes because I can’t process what I’m hearing while I’m trying to write it down; this will allow me to write only what’s on the board, like math problems and their solutions, and then listen to the lecture synchronized to my notes as I review them!
I think the last time I got this excited about a new technology was when the first handheld graphing calculators came out. This product is going to be revolutionary. Thank you!
I am a Logitech IO user for a few years but was always disapointed that they didn’t make more of the Anoto technology. I am so excited to get one of your devices. I will buy it at once when it is available. When will I get it in Europe? Will it be possible to order it from e.g. Amazon US or will I have to ask one of my US collegues to bring it over? I can’t wait several months for a Europe launch I am crazy about the thing….
It may come as a stupid question..but does anyone know if LiveScribe actually CONVERTS written into Editable digital Text???
That is the main feature I’m after, and while I’m really excited about LiveScribe..if it doesn’t convert then I would not be that interested.
I was going to get the FLY Fusion before my spring semester (College), but I don’t feel quite comfortable buying a product directed to kids up to 14y/o…so I researched and ran into LiveScribe.
I really hope it does convert.
I’m pretty excited about this product too. I have only one question … How much memory does it hold? The logitech digital pen only has 2 MB of memory. Will the livescribe hold more? Even if it didn’t, I’d still buy it because its like a college student’s dream come true …(and it sounds 1000x better than the logitech) I hope it gets shipped before my next semester… Wish you guys lots of luck…. (I also wish to win it off facebook… but I never win anything anyway….)
Hey! What’s the purpose of a blog when you only post to it every other week! There must be some interesting stuff you could put up here every day. Give the blog to the dev department and let them tell us about every day stuff!
Now it seems to work more as a forum! (That’s a hint for you to start one…)
I am wanting to pre-order, but I am waiting until I know more facts about the product. Information such as the cost and availability of the paper and the storage capacity of the pen is critical to whether or not I will be buying one. I read in a comment that you are going to be making an FAQ page soon. Hopefully it will include this information (and a lot more).
The pen looks very useful, I want one!
Please confirm that it will be available to the fast-growing legions of happy, creative and tech-forward Apple users out there, especially in the education sector. I have not found a mention of this on the website.
Thanks!
Questions:
1. Does the pen use standard ink refills, or only Livescribe refills?
2. What software exists at launch to transfers the notes to the pc? Can notes be transferred as text? If so, what is the handwriting engine? Can notes be transferred as an image? If so, are they searchable on the desktop?
3. Is there an application to link or transfer the notes to Microsoft OneNote?
How effective will this pen be at converting written word to typed text, if at all, and will I be able to transfer it to a Microsoft Word document for editing?
Richard, good questions! You can actually find the answer to those questions and a few more in our blog post “Top Ten Frequently Asked (and Sometimes Answerable) Questions”.
