Welcome!

Welcome to the first installment of our company blog!

Sorry we’ve been silent as of late…We’ve had our heads down plugging away for the last few months getting ready for launch in Q1. Meanwhile, we’ve continued to hear from many of you, and incorporated much of your feedback into our launch plans. Keep it coming!

You might be asking, “why a blog?” We realized that we haven’t taken the time to reach out to our community of friends and colleagues about what’s been happening back at the farm.

This blog, launching today, is our effort to give the Livescribe faithful (and the curious) a close-up view of what’s happening at the company - straight from the mouths of some of our 50+ employees - with different people posting about new developments or sharing insights about Livescribe. We’ll update this blog regularly as we ramp up for our smartpen and platform launch in Q1 2008. We also hope this blog becomes a place for you to get in touch with us. Feel free to write your comments, questions and feedback about the platform, and we’ll answer what we can.

It promises to be an exciting few months. So stay tuned for notes and messages from the team. Thanks for reading, and stay along for the ride.

  1. Bonnetta Says:

    I’m ready to buy!

Have you considered creating a newsletter area so that prospective customers such as myself can buy as soon as it launches? I have so much on my plate to remember. It would be great to have an instant reminder. Also, you won’t lose my sale. :)

  2. Karen Says:

Hi Bonnetta - we will be sending out an email soon! Just make sure to sign up for our “latest updates” on http://www.Livescribe.com.

  3. Chun Shun Lau Says:

Finally! I have been waiting for new announcement for a long time. I believe this blog will help the fans to follow through new developments. Since May 30, I have been following and waiting news from your site. I make sure I google at least once every week but it turns out mostly just some introductory or financial article related to this exciting product. Just like Bonnetta, I love this product and anytime you open up Beta testing for Livescribe, please sign me up : )

PS:I love to collect nice pen and your design of Livescribe looks quite similar to Montblanc design. This will match my wonderful pens :)

  4. B Says:

I just found your product after trying to find out if an existing kid-geared product would work for me as a college student, and I found the livescribe through an engadget post. This is exactly what I’m looking for and what I needed but didn’t realize would become available! And, it also comes out (almost) in time for the spring semester.

Another note, police officers tend to be hesitant to adopt technology, but I would imagine offering a top-bound 3×5 spiral notebook may slowly win you a following in that field.

  5. Annie Says:

Can’t wait for the Livescribe Pen, currently studying and this will be be ideal for lectures. Like Chun Shun Lau I have been accessing the website on a frequent basis for news.

  6. Annie Says:

I see you can pre-order the smart pen if you are a US Citizen, can you tell me when I might be able to purchase your pen as I live in Scotland. Thanks in advance.

  7. R Says:

I am looking forward to your launch of the Livescribe product.

As mentioned by another person, if you need early adopters to perform “beta testing” I too would be willing to be one. As a manager of a software testing group, yeah, a well conducted beta testing (esp for a new product for the public) can provide you invaluable feedback (confirm on the right track, ideas for enhancements, etc.) and identify issues that need to be fixed. A product with glitches would really hurt it’s acceptance…

  8. Bruce Says:

I am excite to see your implementation of the Anoto’s technology. I been using the technology since c-pen days and own 2 Logitech versions and the new Nokia SU27W Bluetooth pen. I am excited to see voice tags included in your product. My only concern with voice recorders is distance to subject; one product that solves this problem is the Spion Wireless Digital Voice Recorder; you might consider a remote mic option.
But can’t wait to get one of you pens.
As for paper; since your heading after the corp and school market; i have always dreamed of paper that would fit in my DayTimer.

  9. Tran Says:

One question–where will I be able to find the livescribe pen? what stores?
thank you. looking forward to using this neat product.

  10. Monty Sher Says:

It puzzles me that you (and other) Anoto pen makers do not somehow give your pens the dual functionality of also being text scanners like the C-Pen. The C-Pen, using the same Anoto technology, is a marvelous scanner. Text scanning is very useful, as useful as the other functions your pen has. Why not create a slip-on lens, or whatever it would take, to give the smartpen this feature?

  11. Jan Says:

This blog is a very good idea but maybe it could be better if the livescribe community had a forum to share ideas, and (in the future) tips and tricks.

What the livescribe team think about this ?

  12. klee Says:

In response to a couple questions about product availability - at launch in Q1 2008, the Livescribe smartpen will be available in the U.S. market for purchase online. Details on our international distribution plans will be announced later.

  13. klee Says:

Great idea, Jan. We think it’s important for the Livescribe community to have a forum to discuss and share ideas, tips and tricks.

  14. cj Says:

The pen looks great! I am wanting to pre-order one for my son, but I want to make sure it converts hand writing to text(Word) I have not been able to find anything on the issue. My son needs it to help with essays he is not a great typist. If so does how does it do at recognizing different types of writing.

  15. klee Says:

CJ - More product and feature details will be released closer to launch. Stay tuned.

  16. Bingham, Gretchen Says:

Very interested in this technology at Ryerson University; we work with students with LD, and this would be of great value to them. Will you be offering any opportunities for demos to universities - Canada?

  17. Liam Says:

    Hi
very interested in pen, but disappointed with lack of access initially for non-US citizens. As CEO of national ambulance service I am keen to explore business uses and use in medical field (particularly pre-hospital care) which I consider potentially a very substantial market. We are about to trial digital pen and anoto paper but this could be an important extension of trial.
    look forward to hearing more!

    Liam

  18. Dianne Says:

I’ve been looking for something like this for years. My boss is getting older and as each year goes by, The smartpen will give us the ability to continue to manage his business with first hand notes. This will be used as way to preserve a great mans company when he can’t.

  19. Carol DeGroot Mann Says:

I am sooo ready,I know this will be a great aid in my teaching and in my flying mind!
I hope to use the pen to record my instructions as I teach for use in an Art Teaching Book I am in the process of Writing now. My adult stuents are always telling me “You need to write that down for me/us”. I hope it will also enable me to add some simple drawings. I am very anxious to be able to purchase the “pen”. I do believe I am “pre-registered” but will order again. I also wantn to get one for my 42 year old son who is also in the processof writing his “Instruction” book for High School Percussion Students. Looking forward to news, Carol Mann
